All too often we look at exercise as a way to burn fat.
Strengthen our bones
Improve our cardiovascular / heart health …
Which are all true btw..
However exercise has so many more purposes –
It is great tool to connect with self
Connect with others – gym glasses – walking groups – Community – dancing groups etc
Connect with nature – bush walks – beach walks
It is a way to reduce our stress – dependant on the exercise and the current state of your health – both physical and mental
In fact – walking has been shown to be the only form of exercise to lower stress levels and increase energy.
“So I was asked if I would create a walking to wellness group – for the very purpose of connecting with others – self – and to learn and create common bonds to achieve goals.”
It was something I had not done before and honestly didn’t know what or how I would do it.
I have been a personal trainer for 15 years and run boot camps which had quite a different purpose to walking to wellness.
Yet this was different – it was a group of people who have now started to work together to support one and another – we bounce ideas off each other on how to reach each weeks goals – we share recipes that are healthy – we share photos of food to maintain accountability – and we create accountability goals each week.
Each person is there with a different goal – that we have shared amongst ourselves and each person is being supported by the community and by me.
Instead of sitting in a room – discussing strategies on how to achieve our goals we walk and talk about the same things whilst reducing our stress levels – recharge our energy batteries and take in water and nature …..
It is exciting to see this group – grow – enjoy and kick goals …
